ASSESSMENTS

This is a small sample of an activity and an assessment I did with my class this year. The worksheet and checklist were both created by me.

Planet Invention

Description:

My kindies had asked to learn about aliens when we were doing a unit on planets, instead of teaching them something that couldn't be proven, I chose to teach them through creativity. We all made our own alien planet and gave it features that we learned all planets have; climate, name, etc.

Materials:

Printed worksheet and checklist for each student, drawing and writing materials.

Connections to FDK Curriculum:

  • OE 1 – communicate with others in a variety of ways, for a variety of purposes, and in a variety of contexts

  • OE 2 – demonstrate independence, self-regulation, and a willingness to take responsibility in learning and other endeavours

  • OE 13 – use the processes and skills of an inquiry stance (i.e., questioning, planning, predicting, observing, and communicating)

Objective:

Create an alien planet with some essential features from planets. Mark ourselves according to the checklist after.

Observations During Implementation:

My kindies absolutely loved this activity! They were keen to create their own planets and make them a bit silly and unique. They loved sharing their planets with one another after making them to find some similarities and differences.

Reflection:

I think this was a fantastic activity and assessment, my class loved getting to create and mark their own work. They also loved showing their learning of planets in a way that was a little silly and fun.
